Food and wine retailer Booths opened its 30th store today in Barrowford in Lancashire.
The brand new 9,000 square foot Booths food store was officially opened by members of the Booth family; Graham Booth, Property Director, Simon Booth, Director, and Henry Booth, Specialist Manager, alongside Lancashire producers supplying Booths. To mark the opening Simon Booth cracked a wheel of Lancashire cheese provided by supplier Mrs Kirkham’s.
Since June 1847, six generations of the Booths family have led E H Booth & Co from humble beginners to the present day where the company proudly boasts 30 food, wine and grocery stores across Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
The Barrowford Booths store will create over 60 new jobs in the region, ranging from management roles to flexible part time employment, and will be led by Lancashire lad Dean Gibson, who has risen through the ranks of the Booths Management Trainee Programme since he joined the company at Penwortham 14 years ago at just 16 years old.
Booths is well regarded for sourcing exceptional quality products fresh and seasonally from the region and the Barrowford store will be no different. Joining the family to officially open the store was a number of Booths loyal local suppliers; farmer Peter Ascroft of Worthington’s Farm, fresh fish and seafood supplier Neves of Fleetwood, Lancashire cheese maker Mrs Kirkham’s, vegetable supplier and producer of Root Vegetable crisps Huntapac, local bakers Farmhouse Biscuits and Farmhouse Fare, and brewers Moorhouses Brewery.
Graham Booth, Chairman of Booths, explains; “I’m delighted to open Booths in Barrowford. Booths is a food retailer like no other—proudly Northern, family run and independent. Our regional roots and relative small size help to forge close relationships with our farmers & producers.”
“We are proud to have developed strong relationships with many Lancashire farmers and producers, many of whom have been supplying our stores for decades and it means a great deal that some have joined us today in celebrating the opening of our 30th store.”
The new store contains a café and fresh food counters, including a butcher, fishmonger, delicatessen, hot food and cheese monger.
