Karen Clark has never liked having her photograph taken, and that’s the philosophy behind her own photography business.
When she goes out to photograph weddings or other occasions, she tries to be as unobtrusive as possible so she can capture images of people when they’re relaxed and acting normally.
My style is to get as natural shots as possible
This naturalness is reflected in the pictures that have earned Karen a place on the shortlist for best female wedding photographer in the Great Northern Wedding Awards organised by wedding event organisers Little White Books.
“I was surprised to make it to the final ten and feel very privileged. I like to do things just a little bit different, and I think the brides and grooms like it too. My style is to get as natural shots as possible without the subject realising which I consider are the best ones,” says Karen. “This is probably because I don’t like having my own photo taken and I know how awkward it can be. There are some occasions that require a more formal approach and in this instance I make things fun and different so as to get the natural feel once again.”
Karen, who lives at Foulridge with husband Steve, juggles her photography business with bringing up five sons: Tom, 14, Harry, 13, twins Jack and Will, eight, and James, six. No wonder that her business is called 5 Little Boys Photography.
